Our Favorite Baby Carrier

After wearing a lot of babies, the carrier we chose is the BabyBjörn Mini — it faces in or out, so baby can nap or watch the world. Here's what we bought, plus a few others we seriously considered.

Whether you are soothing a newborn, hiking with a toddler, or just need both hands back, a good baby carrier should be comfortable over long stretches, supportive for baby's hips, and easy to adjust. Below the one we chose, we've rounded up a few others we considered for different needs and budgets.

From Our Family

Why We Chose It

With a newborn and five older siblings needing something every thirty seconds, a parent’s hands are never actually free. We learned quickly that the only way to fold laundry, stir a pot, or referee an argument is to wear the baby, so a carrier that goes on fast and does not need a diagram became essential survival gear.

The BabyBjörn Carrier Mini is the one we reach for in those first months. It faces in for naps when the baby just wants to be close, and it turns out to face the world once they are alert and curious about the chaos around them. The fit adjusts easily between grown-ups, so Mom, Dad, and even Grandma can hand the baby off without a five-minute strap-tightening ritual, and it supports a newborn comfortably right from those early weeks.

We considered a bigger, do-everything carrier meant to last into the toddler years, but for pure newborn use the Mini won on simplicity. It goes on in seconds, the smaller frame is not a hot, bulky mess against a tiny baby, and it packs down to toss in the diaper bag. It does not try to be a hiking carrier, and we did not need it to be — we needed the thing you can put on one-handed while dinner burns. The BabyBjörn Carrier Mini does exactly that, and after this many babies, that focused, no-fuss design is what keeps it in rotation.
