There is nothing quite like sending your kids back to school and immediately remembering that back-to-school also means back-to-school germs.
We made it approximately five minutes. 😂
Poor Kate came down with a stomach bug almost immediately, and then little Lily got sick too. There is something especially pitiful about a three-year-old who doesn’t understand why her tummy hurts — and something even more pitiful about a baby who just knows she doesn’t feel good and wants to be held.
So our regularly scheduled week pretty much stopped.
There were blankets everywhere. Stuffed animals in bed. Sippy cups and thermometers and a bowl that stayed very close to Kate. Lily spent most of the day attached to me. And I spent a lot of time sitting in one place with a child tucked under each arm.
Not exactly what I had planned for the first week back at school.
But there was something sweet about it, too.
As the kids get older, our house is constantly moving. School, activities, work, meals, six different little lives all happening at once. Then somebody gets sick and suddenly everything becomes very small again.
A bed. A blanket. A book. A baby asleep against your chest. A little girl who just wants her mom.
I could definitely do without the stomach bug.
But I’ll take the snuggles. And some Clorox wipes. ❤️
