Our Favorite Food Storage Container

After packing endless lunches and leftovers, the storage set we chose is Rubbermaid Brilliance glass โ€” it goes fridge-to-oven and never stains from spaghetti night. Here's what we bought, plus a few others we seriously considered.

Whether you are stashing leftovers, prepping lunches for the week, or organizing a packed pantry, a good storage set should be leakproof, stackable, and built to survive the dishwasher and microwave. Below the one we chose, we've rounded up a few others we considered for different needs and budgets.

From Our Family

Why We Chose It

Spaghetti night is a rite of passage in our kitchen, and so is the aftermath: a counter full of leftovers and a stack of plastic containers stained orange and smelling faintly of garlic forever. We were tired of lids that never matched their bottoms and cheap tubs that warped in the dishwasher, so the whole cabinet had become a place we dreaded opening.

The Rubbermaid Brilliance glass set solved the parts that actually annoyed us. The glass goes straight from the fridge to the oven, so leftovers reheat in the same dish they were stored in, and the lids seal leakproof for the older kids’ lunches without soaking a backpack. After a night of red sauce, the glass rinses clean and never holds the stain or the smell, which our old plastic could never manage.

We weighed it against another round of inexpensive plastic sets, but for a family that generates this much leftover volume, the glass was worth it. It does not warp, the clear sides mean we can actually see what is in there before it becomes a science experiment, and the latching lids have survived being knocked off the counter more than once. The Rubbermaid Brilliance set costs more upfront than the throwaway options, but it has already outlasted several of them, and that longer life is exactly why it earned the shelf space.
