Our Favorite Hair Dryer

When it comes to drying and styling, the tool we chose is the Dyson Airwrap — it dries and shapes in one pass without the extreme heat that fries hair. Here's what we bought, plus a few others we seriously considered.

A great everyday styler should be fast, gentle on your hair, and versatile enough to dry, smooth, and add volume — without the extreme heat that leads to breakage. Below the one we chose, we've rounded up a few others we considered for different hair types and budgets.

From Our Family

Why We Chose It

Between school photos, church mornings, and the occasional evening where Mom actually gets to feel put-together, hair time in our house is precious and rare. With six kids pulling at the schedule, standing over a hot dryer and a round brush for half an hour was never realistic, and years of high heat had left both Mom’s and our oldest’s hair frayed and frizzy. What they wanted was a way to dry and style in one shot, without cooking their hair to do it.

The tool they reach for now is the Dyson Airwrap i.d. Multi-Styler, and it genuinely earns its spot on the counter. It dries and shapes hair in a single pass using airflow instead of scorching heat, and the attachments swap out for a smooth blowout one morning or extra volume the next. As Mom puts it, it dries and styles at once without the frizz, and there is no punishing heat wrecking her hair — which, after years of damage, is the part that keeps her loyal to it.

It is far and away the priciest thing in this bathroom at around five hundred dollars, and we did not decide on a whim — we weighed it against cheaper dryers and separate styling irons. But those meant more heat, more steps, and more time we do not have, and they slowly wore the hair down anyway. The Airwrap i.d. replaced a drawer full of tools with one, cut the styling time down to something a busy mom can manage, and skips the extreme heat that caused the damage in the first place. For the two people who use it most, it turned out to be worth the splurge.
