Our Favorite Weighted Blanket

After a lot of restless nights, the weighted blanket we chose is the yescool 20-pound — that gentle weight finally helped us fall asleep fast. Here's what we bought, plus a few others we seriously considered.

Whether you are helping a restless kid settle, easing into sleep yourself, or want cozier evenings on the couch, a good weighted blanket should be the right weight for the person, breathable, and easy to wash. Below the one we chose, we've rounded up a few others we considered for different needs and budgets.

From Our Family

Why We Chose It

Bedtime in a big family is a long, slow wind-down, and by the time the last little one is asleep, Mom’s mind is still running through tomorrow’s logistics. Falling asleep fast was never a given, and a house this full does not exactly quiet down on schedule. We had heard for years that a weighted blanket might help take the edge off.

The yescool 20-pound weighted blanket turned out to be the one that stuck. The weight settles over you like a calming hug, heavy enough to feel grounding without pinning you to the mattress, and it is breathable enough to actually sleep under instead of overheating. When a little one inevitably crawls in and something gets spilled, the cover zips off and goes straight into the wash, which for us is non-negotiable.

We compared it to a couple of pricier weighted blankets, and the difference in feel did not justify the difference in price. The yescool distributes its weight evenly so it does not bunch into a lump by morning, the removable cover keeps it usable in a house where everything eventually needs laundering, and it has held its shape through repeated washes. For under forty dollars it does the one thing we bought it to do — help a tired parent actually fall asleep — and it does it without any fuss, which is why it stays on the bed.
