Today, Lily figured out that she can get where she wants to go.

It's just the beginning of crawling—those little scoots and determined wiggles that somehow seem impossibly fast—but it changes everything.

Suddenly nothing is quite where you left it.

The dog toys are fair game.

Shoes are fascinating.

And somehow she always knows exactly where everyone else is.

Watching her discover the world is pure joy.

But then I looked over at the baby swing.

She's almost done with it.

Not because anything is wrong.

Because she's growing.

With our first baby, every milestone felt like something to celebrate.

With our last baby, every milestone feels like two emotions at once.

"Look what you can do!"

...and...

"Please stay little just a little longer."

The swing that has rocked six babies.

The tiny blankets.

The newborn stretches.

The contact naps.

The first smiles.

One by one, they quietly become memories.

There's no sadness in watching Lily grow.

Only gratitude.

Because getting to watch six little humans become exactly who they're meant to be has been one of the greatest gifts of my life.

Still...

I think the baby swing gets to stay in the living room just a little bit longer.

Just in case.
